Membership of the Ceylon College of Family Physicians (CCFP)

The Ceylon College of Family Physicians offers a range of membership categories to recognize and connect medical professionals and students committed to advancing family medicine.

Application Process

Prospective members must apply online, specifying the desired membership category and type (ordinary or life). All categories except Collegiate Membership require recommendation by the Board of Censors. Once eligibility is confirmed, payment is made, and the Council ratifies the membership. Local members receive printed certificates, while international members and students receive e-certificates.

Membership Categories

  1. Collegiate Membership – Awarded to those registered with the Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) and holding an MD in Family Medicine from the Postgraduate Institute of Medicine (PGIM), Sri Lanka. Collegiate Members have full participation rights, including voting and holding office (except positions reserved for Fellows).
  2. Ordinary Membership – Open to SLMC-registered doctors holding a Diploma in Family Medicine, MCGP, MRCGP (International), or currently enrolled in the MD (Family Medicine) program. Ordinary Members may attend and speak at meetings, receive publications, but cannot vote or hold office.
  3. Associate Membership – For registered medical practitioners who do not qualify for Collegiate or Ordinary Membership. Associate Members may participate in activities and receive publications but do not have voting or office-holding rights.
  4. International Membership – For medical practitioners outside Sri Lanka holding an MD in Family Medicine or equivalent. International Members receive e-publications, may attend and speak at meetings, but cannot vote or hold office.
  5. Student Membership – Open to medical students in SLMC-approved medical faculties in Sri Lanka or abroad. Student Members receive electronic publications and notices, and may attend meetings, but do not have voting or office-holding rights.
  6. Fellowship – Awarded to Collegiate Members who are board-certified Family Medicine specialists in Sri Lanka and meet Council criteria. Fellows enjoy full participation rights, seniority recognition, and the privilege of wearing the prescribed academic dress.
  7. Honorary Fellowship – Conferred by the Council on individuals who have made outstanding contributions to Family Medicine and primary care.

The CCFP membership structure supports professional growth, encourages active participation, and fosters a network of dedicated family medicine practitioners locally and internationally.

Eligibility:

  • Sri Lanka Medical Council registration
  • MD – Family Medicine awarded by Post Graduate Institute of Medicine – Sri Lanka.

Privileges: A Collegiate Member of the College is entitled to receive all publications and general notices sent out by the College, to hold office (except positions reserved to the Fellows), and to attend, speak and vote at any general meeting and generally to participate in the activities of the College.

Fees: Admission fee: Rs. 10,000 | Annual fee: Rs. 5,000 | Life membership fee: Rs. 30,000.

Entrance fee + 1 year subscription (Rs. 15,000) for Collegiate Membership.
Entrance fee + 6 years subscription (Rs. 40,000) for Collegiate Life Membership.
If converting later, six years subscription fee (Rs. 30,000) should be paid. If already paid annual subscription for that year (Rs. 5,000), balance Rs. 25,000 should be paid to become a Collegiate Life Member.
All categories of membership other than Collegiate Membership should be recommended by the Board of Censors and approved by the Council of the College.
Applicants to these membership categories should fill the relevant membership application and submit online. Once the approval is granted from the Council of the College, an invoice will be sent to make the payment.
Upon receipt of the payment, the applicant will be included in the relevant membership category and a certificate of membership will be awarded. For the International Members and International Student Members, an e-certificate will be sent.
If anyone is becoming a Collegiate Life Member any time after initial registration, six years subscription fee (Rs. 30,000) should be paid. If the member has already paid the annual subscription fee for that year (Rs. 5,000), the balance amount (Rs. 25,000) should be paid to become a Collegiate Life Member.

Eligibility:

  • Sri Lanka Medical Council registration
  • Diploma in Family Medicine or MCGP or MRCGP (international) equivalent, or is a registrar in MD – Family Medicine training programme

Privileges: An Ordinary Member of the College is entitled to receive all publications and general notices sent out by the College, and to attend and speak at any general meeting of the College and generally to participate in the activities of the College. Ordinary members are not entitled to vote or to hold office in the College.

Fees: Admission fee: Rs. 5,000 | Annual fee: Rs. 3,000 | Life membership fee: Rs. 18,000.

Entrance fee + 1 year subscription (Rs. 8,000) for annual membership.
Entrance fee + 6 years subscription (Rs. 23,000) for life membership.
If converting later, six years subscription fee (Rs. 18,000) should be paid. If already paid annual subscription for that year (Rs. 3,000), balance Rs. 15,000 should be paid to become an Ordinary Life Member.
If becoming a Collegiate Life Member after initial registration, six years subscription fee (Rs. 18,000) should be paid. If already paid annual subscription for that year (Rs. 3,000), balance Rs. 15,000 should be paid to become a Collegiate Life Member.

Eligibility:

  • Sri Lanka Medical Council registration or has an equally acceptable qualification.
  • Provisional or conditional registration with Sri Lanka Medical Council. Provisionally registered doctors must become conditionally or fully registered within the number of years stipulated by the Sri Lanka Medical Council.
  • Registered medical practitioner who does not qualify for Ordinary or Collegiate membership.

Privileges: An Associate Member of the College is entitled to receive all publications and general notices sent out by the College, generally to participate in the activities of the College, and to attend and speak at any general meeting of the College, but not entitled to vote or to hold office in the College.

Fees: Admission fee: Rs. 5,000 | Annual fee: Rs. 2,000 | Life membership fee: Rs. 12,000.

Entrance fee + 1 year subscription (Rs. 7,000) for annual membership.
Entrance fee + 6 years subscription (Rs. 17,000) for life membership.
If converting later, six years subscription fee (Rs. 12,000) should be paid. If already paid annual subscription for that year (Rs. 2,000), balance Rs. 10,000 should be paid to become an Associate Life Member.
If anyone is becoming an Associate Life Member any time after initial registration, six years subscription fee (Rs. 12,000) should be paid. If already paid annual subscription for that year (Rs. 2,000), the balance amount (Rs. 10,000) should be paid to become an Associate Life Member.

Eligibility:

  • Registered medical practitioner of a country other than Sri Lanka
  • MD – Family Medicine or equivalent qualification.

Privileges: An International Member is entitled to receive all e-publications and relevant notices sent out by the College and to attend and speak at any general meeting, but not entitled to vote or to hold office in the College.

Fees: Admission fee: 100 USD | Annual fee: 50 USD | Life membership fee: 300 USD.

Entrance fee + 1 year subscription (150 USD) for annual membership.
Entrance fee + 6 years subscription (400 USD) for life membership.
If converting later, six years subscription fee (300 USD) should be paid. If already paid annual subscription for that year (50 USD), balance 250 USD should be paid to become an International Life Member.
If anyone is becoming an International Life Member any time after initial registration, six years subscription fee (300 USD) should be paid. If already paid annual subscription for that year (50 USD), the balance amount (250 USD) should be paid to become an International Life Member.

Eligibility:

  • Medical students in all SLMC accepted medical faculties in Sri Lanka shall be eligible.
  • Medical students in all SLMC accepted overseas medical faculties shall be eligible.

Privileges: A Student Member shall be entitled to receive the electronic copy of the College Journal and important notices sent out by the College, to attend and speak at any general meeting, but not entitled to vote or hold office in the College.

Fees: Admission fee: Rs. NILL | Annual fee: Rs. NILL | Life membership fee: Not Applicable.

Eligibility:

  • A member is eligible for election to the Fellowship of the College if he/she is a Collegiate Member, has been board certified as specialist in Family Medicine in Sri Lanka and fulfills the other criteria which may from time to time be defined by the Council.
  • All the applications to Fellowship should be recommended by the Board of Censors and approved by the Council of the College.

Privileges: A Fellow of the College shall be entitled to precedence in accordance with his seniority, to wear the academic dress prescribed, to receive all general notices sent out by the College, to hold office, to attend, speak and vote at any general meeting and generally to participate in the activities of the College.

Fees: Admission fee: Rs. 12,000 | Annual fee: Rs. 7,500 | Life membership fee: Rs. 45,000.

Entrance fee + 1 year subscription (Rs. 20,000) for Fellowship.
Entrance fee + 6 years subscription (Rs. 57,500) for Life Fellowship.
If converting later, six years subscription fee (Rs. 45,000) should be paid. If already paid annual subscription for that year (Rs. 7,500), balance Rs. 37,500 should be paid to become a Life Fellow.
If anyone is becoming a Life Fellow any time after initial registration, six years subscription fee (Rs. 45,000) should be paid. If already paid annual subscription for that year (Rs. 7,500), the balance amount (Rs. 37,500) should be paid.

The Council may elect individuals as Honorary Fellows who have rendered outstanding service to Family Medicine and primary care development. Conditions may vary as per Council byelaws.
